"They Will Give Me A Chance To Lead Them," Gachagua Confident He Can Win Over Kenyans Ahead of 2027

As he prepares for the 2027 presidential contest, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua seems assured.

Gachagua has remained committed to running for president since his conflict with William Ruto in 2024, which resulted in his impeachment.

He maintains that his ongoing judicial appeal keeps the door open for his candidacy despite constitutional obstacles that would prevent him from holding public office.

Gachagua has been busy on the campaign trail in recent months, mobilizing supporters and advancing the wantam or "one-term" narrative.

He portrays himself as the opposition coalition's most formidable candidate, despite ongoing internal deliberations regarding a single opponent for Ruto.

"Yes, I'm running for president, and I have high hopes." He told the BBC, "I have faith that Kenyans will give me a chance to lead them because they know me and they love me."

Kalonzo Musyoka and Martha Karua, two other powerful opponents, are also contenders for the combined ticket. In the run-up to the election, coalition officials say they intend to choose the candidate who has the most public support.

President Ruto, however, has responded to criticism from the opposition by claiming that they lack a development plan and engage in divisive politics.

"You have no place in this country, you have no opportunity to divide the people of this great nation called Kenya," he declared during a rally in Kakamega.

Both sides are stepping up their public gatherings, religious activities, and rallies as the political heat increases. Ruto's defenses and Gachagua's assault indicate that the 2027 race is expected to be fiercely competitive.
