Former Defence Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa has strongly responded to recent remarks by President William Ruto, dismissing claims that he has no family or home.
Speaking during a radio interview on Thursday, March 26, 2026, Wamalwa said the President’s comments were not only misleading but also surprising, given their past personal interactions.
According to the DAP-K party leader, Ruto has visited his home in Kiminini several times and is well acquainted with his family.
Wamalwa revealed that his wife, Lucy Nalonja Wamalwa, has on multiple occasions hosted and prepared meals for the President during those visits.
He added that Ruto has also met his children, insisting that the claims made during the Western Kenya tour were false.
The remarks in question were made by Ruto during a three-day development tour of the Western region, where he criticized opposition leaders.
Without naming Wamalwa directly, the President referred to a leader from Kitale, claiming the individual had “no home, wife, or children.” The statement sparked widespread criticism, with many Kenyans terming it inappropriate for a Head of State.
Drawing historical parallels, Wamalwa accused Ruto of adopting tactics similar to those used by former President Daniel arap Moi, who he said often undermined his late brother, Kijana Wamalwa.
He warned that underestimating political opponents could backfire, noting that such leaders often rise to challenge incumbents.
Wamalwa further claimed that intelligence reports indicate growing dissatisfaction with the current administration, alleging that the President risks losing re-election by a significant margin.
He argued that this pressure could be behind the recent shift to personal attacks against opposition figures.
The controversy has also drawn reactions from leaders in Bungoma County, including Kabuchai MP Majimbo Kalasinga, who criticized the President for what he termed as disrespectful remarks directed at one of their own.
