“Respect Must Be Earned”: Edwin Sifuna Responds Sharply to New Orange Democratic Movement Secretary

A heated political exchange has emerged within the Orange Democratic Movement after Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna strongly responded to remarks made by the party’s newly appointed Secretary General.

The outspoken politician argued that leadership titles alone do not guarantee respect emphasizing that credibility must be built through actions and service to the public.

The disagreement reportedly began after the new ODM Secretary General made comments that appeared to question the significance of Sifuna’s official title.

In response Sifuna dismissed the idea that political recognition should be based purely on positions or honorifics stating that genuine respect in leadership must come from performance, integrity and commitment to the people.

Speaking during a public appearance the Nairobi senator said that political leaders should not rely on titles to command authority.

Instead he stressed that trust and respect are earned by consistently delivering results and standing firmly by one’s principles especially during challenging times.

Sifuna also criticized what he described as attempts to use titles as symbols of power or tools to intimidate others within the party.

According to him such behavior distracts from the real responsibilities of leadership which include strengthening party unity and focusing on issues that affect citizens.

Political analysts believe the exchange reflects underlying tensions as ODM continues to adjust its internal leadership structure.

With the party remaining one of the most influential political organizations in Kenya disagreements among senior members often attract significant public attention.

Despite the sharp remarks Sifuna reaffirmed his loyalty to ODM and its broader political agenda.

He emphasized that constructive debate within political parties is healthy and necessary for growth as long as it remains respectful and focused on improving leadership.

As the situation unfolds supporters and observers alike will be watching closely to see whether the disagreement is resolved through dialogue or if it signals deeper divisions within the party’s leadership.
