Former Cabinet Secretary and Jubilee deputy party leader Fred Matiang’i has vowed to revive key development projects in Nyandarua County that were initiated during the administration of former President Uhuru Kenyatta but were abandoned by pthe current government.
Speaking on Monday after opening Jubilee Party offices on the outskirts of Ol’Kalou town, Matiang’i criticized the Kenya Kwanza administration for neglecting initiatives aimed at improving the livelihoods of local residents.
He cited a cold storage facility started under the previous regime, intended to benefit potato farmers, which he said has never been operationalised.
"Even the cold storage started by Uhuru that was meant to help potato farmers has never been operationalised,” Matiang’i stated.
The presidential hopeful enumerated about 40 major projects, including critical roads, that he said had been left incomplete in the county.
Describing Nyandarua as his second home due to his frequent visits during his tenure as Cabinet Secretary, Matiang’i argued that the pattern of abandoned projects reflects a national trend of mismanagement.
He called on residents to support his candidature, promising to turn around the country’s economy if elected.
Matiang’i also urged young people to register in large numbers for next year’s elections, noting that the party aims to nurture the next generation of leaders by integrating them into party activities.
He added that Jubilee would soon hold grassroots forums to educate aspirants on nomination rules.
In a notable show of unity, Jubilee’s deputy party leader in charge of operations, Jeremiah Kioni, revealed that he had buried his differences with Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Kioni said that after a meeting with the DCP leader, both sides agreed to cooperate in the Mt Kenya region without animosity for the sake of unity.
Meanwhile, former Nyandarua Governor Francis Kimemia claimed that the county’s leadership had run down the devolved unit, alleging that road machinery purchased for Ksh500 million had been rendered inoperable due to looting of spare parts.
