The Nairobi Senator and ODM Secretary General has remained a vocal critic of the Kenya Kwanza administration, but according to Belgut MP Nelson Koech this fire isn't just about ideology but personal.
Speaking at this morning at an interview on Citizen TV’s, Koech has leveled a heavy allegation against Sifuna.
He has suggested that the Senator’s relentless opposition to President Ruto’s government stems from a missed opportunity.
According to the MP, Sifuna had high hopes of being among those nominated for a Cabinet Secretary (CS) position after the reorganization of government.
Koech claims that when Sifuna realized he wasn't on the list of those transitioning from the opposition to the executive, he became defiant and ramped up his attacks on the government.
The logic presented by the Ruto ally is simple that Sifuna is feeling the heat from within his own party.
While his peers are now steering national policy in the Cabinet, Sifuna remains in the Senate, navigating the tricky waters of an opposition that seems increasingly divided.
Koech's argument suggests three main drivers for Sifuna’s current stance. This includes the perceived snub during the selection of the broad-based team.
Secondly the party friction where there is a growing isolation or rejection within the ODM ranks.
And lastly, political survival by using defiance to maintain relevance while his colleagues move into the executive.
Whether these claims are a genuine reveal or just tactical political mudslinging remains to be seen.
Sifuna has consistently maintained that his role is to provide oversight and hold the government accountable, regardless of who joins the Cabinet.
