James Orengo Finally Calls Time on ODM-UDA Alliance As UDA Party Sweeps All By-election Seats

Siaya County Governor James Orengo has finally spoken, and the political ground in ODM is shaking.

The veteran politician has announced that the formal cooperation between ODM and UDA will officially end on March 7, 2026, sending shockwaves through party corridors and leaving many political watchers questioning what comes next for Raila Odinga’s party.

Orengo’s announcement comes amid escalating tensions within ODM, as factions wrestle over loyalty, strategy, and the 2027 general elections.

In a video clip circulating online here, Orengo makes it clear that ODM members should prepare for a future where alliances with UDA are no longer part of the plan.

Political analysts say this is more than just a policy shift, it’s a bold statement that the party intends to reclaim its independence and redefine its identity.

While some view it as Orengo positioning himself as the guardian of ODM’s legacy, others warn that the move could fracture the party’s base if not handled carefully.

Meanwhile, the drama isn’t confined to ODM alone. Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s allies are watching closely, with EALA MP Hon Kanini Kega going on record saying the “final rites” for the ODM-UDA cooperation are imminent.

This hints at a wider political reshuffle that could affect alliances across the country, especially as UDA looks to consolidate its influence ahead of the next elections.

Grassroots ODM supporters are reacting online with a mix of relief, excitement, and worry. Some see Orengo’s move as reclaiming the party from what they call UDA’s creeping influence, while others fear it may alienate voters in mixed counties where ODM and UDA cooperation has historically delivered results.

With less than two weeks before the formal end of the alliance, political operatives in Nairobi, Kisumu, and Siaya are already recalibrating campaigns, messaging, and candidate lists. One thing is clear: ODM is preparing for a chapter that is unapologetically its own, and the stakes have never been higher.

The coming days will be crucial as the party navigates this transition, and every move will be scrutinized by supporters, opponents, and the ever-watchful Kenyan youth online.
