Questions Linger as Details of Cyrus Jirongo’s Final Hours Come to Light

Fresh details have emerged about the final moments of businessman and former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo, revealing how an ordinary night ended in a tragic road accident that claimed his life.

A reconstruction of his last movements, based on digital location records, security cameras, and eyewitness accounts, paints a quiet but troubling picture of his final hours.

The information has left many Kenyans puzzled and searching for answers as investigations continue.

On the night of the accident, Jirongo is reported to have left Karen shortly before 11pm. He was driving his Mercedes-Benz and heading towards Naivasha along the Nairobi–Nakuru highway. At the time, he was allegedly accompanied by a female friend.

At around 1.30am, his vehicle stopped near a hotel along the highway, where he dropped off the woman. Witnesses say the two spoke briefly before parting ways.

Neither of them could have known that this short interaction would be among Jirongo’s last conversations.

After leaving the hotel area, Jirongo continued his journey alone. A short distance later, he reportedly stopped by the roadside to relieve himself before getting back into the car and driving on.

Just before 2.15am, Jirongo entered a petrol station along the highway. Security cameras show his vehicle moving around the station’s compound, but he did not refuel. Moments later, he exited the station and rejoined the highway.

It was shortly after this that tragedy struck.

According to initial findings, Jirongo’s car entered the road on the wrong lane and collided head-on with an oncoming Climax bus. The impact was fatal, ending his journey instantly and shocking the nation when news of his death broke.

The sequence of events has raised many questions among family members, friends, and members of the public. Many are struggling to understand how a routine night drive could suddenly turn deadly.

Jirongo was widely known as a bold businessman and politician, but he also had a long-standing reputation for fast driving. For some, his final hours serve as a reminder of how quickly life can change, even during the most normal moments.

Conflicting accounts have since emerged about the moments before the crash. The bus driver involved claimed that Jirongo was trying to avoid other vehicles when he entered the wrong lane.

However, a security guard at the nearby petrol station disputed this version, saying the road was calm and clear at the time.

The guard’s statement has added another layer of uncertainty, prompting calls for a deeper investigation to establish exactly what caused the accident.

Meanwhile, a video recorded by a passer-by shortly after the crash has circulated online. The footage shows the wrecked Mercedes-Benz positioned sideways on the road, while the bus is seen a short distance ahead. Locals and police officers can be seen working together to control the scene and restore traffic flow.

Jirongo’s body was first taken to Naivasha Sub-County Mortuary before being transferred to Lee Funeral Home at the request of his family.
