In a strongly worded statement released on Wednesday, McOure claimed Sifuna deliberately failed to acknowledge Oburu during a recent political engagement in the Mulembe region, an omission he described as unacceptable and harmful to party unity.
According to the ODM Youth League leader, the incident was not accidental but part of a growing pattern of behaviour that undermines the party’s leadership and direction.
“The Secretary General must decide whether he wants to remain loyal to the party or pursue his own political interests elsewhere.”
Threat of removal from office
McOure warned that Sifuna risks being removed from his position if he fails to change course, saying party members are growing increasingly impatient with his conduct.
He said ODM would use its internal democratic structures, including the National Delegates Convention, to take action if necessary.
“If you do not change your ways, ODM members will remove you from that office at the next delegates’ meeting,” McOure warned.
The youth leader further reminded Sifuna that his appointment as Secretary General was not the result of a direct vote by party members but a decision made by party leader Raila Odinga.
He argued that the appointment did not place Sifuna above other leaders, many of whom, he said, had also been mentored and elevated by Raila over the years.
McOure accused Sifuna of using social media and public appearances to advance personal political ambitions rather than strengthening the party.
He dismissed Sifuna’s recent outreach to leaders from Western Kenya as an attempt to rebrand himself politically.
According to McOure, such efforts have yielded little success and only serve to create confusion within the party.
He went further to allege that Sifuna was acting under external influence, claiming unnamed forces were using him to weaken senior ODM figures, including Oburu Odinga.
“We can see what is happening,” McOure said.

“These actions are not helping ODM and must stop.”
The youth leader also accused Sifuna of frequently criticising the broad-based government in a manner that weakens ODM’s negotiating position and fuels internal divisions.
He claimed that while Sifuna speaks loudly on national platforms, he has done little to mobilise support within his own political base, instead relying on rallies addressed by leaders he publicly criticises elsewhere.
Earlier this week, Sifuna cautioned party members against making premature decisions about ODM’s position ahead of the 2027 General Election.
He insisted that the party had not yet resolved whether to support President William Ruto’s re-election bid and said such a decision would not be made by a few leaders at the top.
“The direction ODM will take in 2027 will be decided by the people,” Sifuna said.
“We will go to the ground and listen to Kenyans before making that choice.”
