Namibian Parliamentary Delegation Signs Raila Odinga’s Condolence Book At Parliament

A delegation from Namibian Parliamentary Standing Committee on Urban and Rural Development and Land Reforms, currently on a benchmarking mission in Kenya, paid their respects to the late Raila Odinga on Monday, at Parliament Buildings in Nairobi.

The delegation, led by Committee Chairperson Hon. Elifas Dingara, signed the condolence book in honour of the late Raila, who passed away on October 15, 2025, while undergoing treatment in India.

In his message, Hon. Dingara described Raila Odinga as an extraordinary African leader whose influence extended far beyond Kenya’s borders.

“You were a true son of Africa, a man of courage, wisdom, and unity who brought people together across nations,” he wrote, expressing Namibia’s solidarity with the people of Kenya during their time of mourning.

The Namibian lawmakers noted that Odinga’s commitment to democracy, justice, and good governance had inspired generations of African leaders.

They praised his unwavering spirit in advocating for the empowerment of citizens and strengthening democratic institutions.

The visiting delegation is in Kenya to learn from the country’s governance and decentralization structures as part of their legislative mandate.

The benchmarking mission aims to enhance their capacity in oversight, devolution, and service delivery back home.

Earlier, Hon. Martha Wangari (Gilgil), representing the Speaker’s Panel, welcomed the delegation and outlined the roles of Kenya’s bicameral legislature, emphasizing the complementary functions of the National Assembly and the Senate.

During their stay, the Namibian MPs are expected to hold discussions with various Senate committees on topics such as agriculture, water management, devolution, and land reforms.

Their visit will culminate in observing a Senate sitting to gain firsthand experience of Kenya’s parliamentary proceedings.
