Nairobi youth leader and former Bunge la Mwananchi president, Calvince Okoth alias Gaucho, has fired back at critics claiming he depended on former ODM boss Raila Odinga for financial support.
Gaucho, known for his fiery political commentary, dismissed the allegations as baseless, saying he fully funds his lifestyle through his own hustle.
In a viral clip shared through this Facebook link, Gaucho broke down his monthly expenses to prove that he lives within his means.
He said he pays a rent of KSh 70,000 and handles all his bills, including Wi-Fi, electricity tokens, and Uber rides, without ever asking Raila for help.
He wondered why some Kenyans keep spreading false stories that the late ODM leader used to “feed” him.
Gaucho explained that maintaining his home is not cheap, from washing two bathrooms to buying special detergent for his washing machine, yet he manages without begging anyone for money.
He stated that such expenses are normal for anyone who works hard and values independence.
His statement came as a direct response to online critics who have often portrayed him as one of the politicians allegedly funded by Raila during the Azimio rallies.
Gaucho said those attacking him were either jealous or politically motivated, trying to tarnish his name now that Raila is no longer alive to defend himself.
Analysts say Gaucho’s remarks highlight the silent battles facing young political activists who were closely linked to Raila’s movement.
Many are now working to clear their names amid renewed attempts to discredit Raila’s legacy following his death and state burial in Kisumu.
For now, Gaucho’s defiant tone has sparked fresh debate online, with many Kenyans praising him for standing his ground and showing that loyalty to a leader doesn’t mean financial dependence.
