The former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has accused his late brother’s wife of falling into a trap allegedly set by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, who he claims invited her to his meetings in an attempt to vindicate accusations that Gachagua took over his late brother, Governor Nderitu Gachagua’s estate after his death.
While speaking during an interview with Maa radio stations, Gachagua defended himself, stating that he has never in his life taken anything forcefully or grabbed what does not belong to him.
He cited the allegations made against him during his impeachment in the Senate, where he was accused of taking away his brother’s estate and leaving his sister-in-law and her children in distress.
Gachagua maintained that he shared the property equally, just as his late brother had wished.
He went on to claim that some individuals within the government, including Deputy President Kindiki, have attempted to use his late brother’s family to settle political scores.
According to Gachagua, Kindiki invited them to his meetings so that they could speak publicly and soil his name, thereby validating the Senate’s accusations. Unfortunately, Gachagua said, his late brother’s family fell into the trap.
This comes just days after Nderitu Gachagua’s wife was spotted in the company of Oscar Sudi and other top government officials during President William Ruto’s tour of the Mt Kenya region while in Nyeri.
The sighting sparked reactions from Kenyans, as it appeared to reinforce the impeachment claims at a time when Gachagua was becoming a strong political force in Mt Kenya making it unexpected for a member of his own family to appear in such a forum.
