Former Nyeri MP Ngunjiri Wambugu has stirred the political pot by alleging that Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s move to join President William Ruto’s government is inevitable — it’s just a matter of “when,” not “if.”
Despite strong and public denials from Kalonzo and his camp, Ngunjiri insists the rumors hold weight and should not be dismissed lightly.
“There are vehement denials that Kalonzo will join Ruto, but that, by itself, is suspicious,” Ngunjiri said. He pointed out a common political truth: no politician admits they are switching alliances until the move is already underway.
This denial pattern, he says, should raise questions among Kenyans about the real intentions behind Kalonzo’s current stance.
Ngunjiri further explained that the reasons for Kalonzo’s potential shift are clear—both officially and behind the scenes.
Officially, the Wiper Party has faced political stagnation and internal pressures that threaten its influence and bargaining power.
Behind the scenes, there are talks of strategic realignments and promises of key government positions within Ruto’s administration that could lure Kalonzo to change sides.
The political implications of Kalonzo’s defection would be significant, potentially reshaping alliances ahead of future elections and altering the power balance within Kenya’s political landscape.
For now, Kalonzo and the Wiper Party maintain their firm stance of loyalty outside Ruto’s government, dismissing the allegations as mere speculation.
However, Ngunjiri’s assertion suggests that the political chessboard is shifting quietly, and Kenyans should watch closely.
Whether Kalonzo’s move happens soon or later, one thing seems certain: his joining President Ruto’s government is no longer a question of if, but when.
