Social Media in Frenzy as Truth Behind Museveni’s ‘Death’ Finally Revealed

Rumours about Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s death flooded social media platforms between October 18 and 20, 2025.

The claims, which began circulating on Kenyan social media, suggested that the long-serving leader had been admitted to the ICU in critical condition.

The speculation intensified when Kenyan content creator Milly Chebby posted on Instagram on Monday, October 20, claiming Museveni had died.

“Rest in peace, Mr. Museveni. Waah, pole sana Uganda,” she wrote.

Although she deleted the post shortly afterward, the information had already spread widely due to her massive online following.

These rumours coincided with the mourning period of former Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who passed away on October 18.

The timing fueled talk of a “double tragedy” between Kenya and Uganda, with some social media users sharing AI-generated images and misleading videos to back the false claims.

However, TUKO.co.ke’s fact-checking confirms that President Museveni is alive and continues to perform his official duties.

On October 18, as the rumours circulated, he inaugurated Leju Stadium in Uganda’s Terego District and later met local leaders in Arua.

Two days later, while Milly Chebby’s post went viral, Museveni’s verified X account showed him actively updating his followers.

He announced the final day of his West Nile tour in Adjumani and the beginning of his Acholi tour in Amuru.

Photos from his posts showed him greeting crowds and giving his trademark thumbs-up gesture.

Evidence from Uganda’s official government pages and Museveni’s social media accounts clearly debunks the death reports.

In conclusion, President Yoweri Museveni is alive and actively engaged in his re-election campaign.

Claims suggesting his death, including Milly Chebby’s post, are entirely false and serve as a reminder of how quickly misinformation can spread online.
