Uriri MP Mark Nyamita has indicated that former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i is gradually distancing himself from the United Opposition alliance.
Speaking during a TV interview on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, Nyamita noted that recent events suggest it is only a matter of time before Matiang’i formally parts ways with the coalition.
He highlighted an incident during a church function where Matiang’i reportedly referred to fellow opposition leaders as “noise makers,” describing it as a sign of disrespect and an indication of his divergence from the alliance.
“Matiang’i is already out of that team. Introducing a senior politician as a noise maker shows his personal view of opposition leaders,” Nyamita stated.
Nyamita further dismissed claims that opposition leaders were excluded from Jubilee’s National Delegates Convention, asserting that they were invited but chose to boycott, reflecting internal disunity.
He also pointed to speeches during Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua’s NDC, where Matiang’i was conspicuously omitted while other leaders, including Kalonzo Musyoka and Rigathi Gachagua, were acknowledged, signaling his marginalization.
Nyamita noted that the Jubilee parallel NDC made no reference to United Opposition principles, further underscoring the separation of Matiang’i and his faction.
The MP acknowledged ongoing power struggles within the opposition, with some labeling Matiang’i a state-backed project, while Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni has accused Gachagua of secretly collaborating with President Ruto.
Nyamita’s comments highlight rising tensions within the opposition and suggest that the political alignment of key figures like Matiang’i may shift as Kenya approaches the 2027 general elections. Click here.
