Kalonzo Reveals Surprising Plot: Gideon Moi Supported Military Takeover Amid Gen Z Protests

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has revealed that during the Gen Z protests, Gideon Moi supported President William Ruto’s proposal to hand over power to the military, raising serious concerns among opposition leaders about Kenya’s democratic processes.

Kalonzo recounted the tense moment, emphasizing that Moi’s stance shocked many political figures, including Raila Odinga, highlighting internal disagreements over how the government should respond to nationwide demonstrations led by the youth.

According to Kalonzo, Raila approached him privately during the protests, expressing deep concern over Gideon Moi’s attitude, warning that supporting military intervention in civilian matters posed a significant threat to democratic governance in Kenya.

“Raila came and told us he was alarmed by the way Gideon was quick to endorse handing power to the military,” Kalonzo said, noting that this response left opposition leaders uneasy and questioning Moi’s political motives.

Kalonzo stressed that Moi’s comment, “so what’s wrong with it? Ata hawa ni Wakenya,” indicated a casual approach to what many considered a dangerous suggestion, reflecting differing attitudes towards the handling of civil unrest.

The Wiper Party leader revealed that after Moi’s remarks, discussions about Kenya’s broader political reforms, including the “Broad-Based” approach, were effectively stalled, as Raila lost confidence in engaging further on such initiatives.

Kalonzo explained that the incident highlighted divisions within Kenya’s political elite, showing how personal allegiances and unexpected statements could complicate negotiations on democratic governance and long-term reform plans.

He further remarked that this episode was a turning point, emphasizing the importance of cautious and responsible leadership during protests, where decisions about military involvement could have lasting implications for national stability.
