BREAKING NEWS: Former County CEC for ICT Newton Munene Found Dead Days after Testifying Mike Sonko’s Corruption Case In Court

Police in Nairobi are investigating the mysterious death of Newton Munene, a former County Executive Committee Member for ICT, who served in Mike Sonko’s administration.

Munene was found dead at his home in Karen, Nairobi, on the evening of Friday, October 10, just days after appearing in court to testify in Sonko’s corruption case.

According to close sources, Munene’s body was discovered by relatives who had been unable to reach him by phone for several hours.

The cause of death remains unknown, and detectives from the DCI have begun investigations as questions continue to rise over the timing of his death.

Munene was a key defence witness in the ongoing corruption case involving Sonko and Web Tribe Limited, the company that operated JamboPay, Nairobi’s digital revenue collection system.

During his testimony, Munene defended Sonko, stating that the former governor had opposed the renewal of the JamboPay contract, which he said was introduced during Evans Kidero’s administration.

In his statement, Sonko expressed sadness over Munene’s death, calling it “a painful loss and a cowardly act.”

He suggested that powerful individuals could be behind the incident to frustrate his ongoing case.

“Munene stood for truth. He had just testified in my defence, and now he is gone under unclear circumstances. This cannot be ignored,” Sonko said.

Sources close to the former governor claim that other witnesses in the same case have received threats, raising fears of a broader intimidation plot.

Sonko vowed not to be silenced, saying he will continue to fight for justice and expose what he described as “deep-rooted corruption cartels” within the system.

Munene’s body was moved to Lee Funeral Home, as family members called for transparency and a thorough investigation.

The anti-corruption trial, which involves Sonko, businessman Anthony Otieno Ombok, and ROG Security Limited, is set to continue next year.

Munene’s sudden death has left many Kenyans shocked and suspicious, especially given his recent role in court.
