Fear and sorrow have gripped residents of Ngano Estate in Kajiado West after a mother of four was discovered dead inside her mabati house.
The woman, identified as Divinah Okari, had been alone at home after her husband traveled upcountry with their children to prepare them for school.
According to family accounts, Okari’s sister grew worried after several days of unanswered phone calls. She tried reaching her repeatedly for three days without success.
Concerned, she decided to visit her home, only to be met with a heartbreaking sight—her sister lying lifeless inside the small house.
News of the tragedy spread quickly, drawing shocked neighbors who gathered in disbelief. Many could not understand how a vibrant woman who traded at Kiserian Market could suddenly be gone.
“We are shaken and scared. It looks like she had been dead for days,” one resident said.
The incident has also raised fresh security concerns in the area. Residents noted that Ngano Estate lacks a nearby police station, making it difficult to respond to emergencies.
“Just the other day, a young girl was abused here. Before that, a woman was killed. This place used to be safe, but things have changed,” a resident lamented, urging authorities to intervene.
Others pointed to rising cases of drug abuse among young people as a growing threat.
Okari’s friends and neighbors remembered her as a kind and welcoming soul. One woman, overcome with emotion, described her as quiet but always friendly.
“She would often greet me warmly whenever I passed by her house. She was a mother like me, and hearing this news makes me fear for my own safety,” she said tearfully.
Police officers later arrived at the scene and moved her body to Ngong Funeral Home, where a post-mortem will be conducted.
Meanwhile, her grieving family from Kisii County is calling for a thorough investigation to establish what exactly happened to their loved one.
The tragedy has left the community questioning both safety and social support systems in the area.
