President William Ruto has been cautioned that his former deputy is trying to undermine him in the vote rich Mt Kenya region, ahead of the 2027 election.
Ruto has already hinted at seeking a second term in 2027, but it is not clear whether he will once again pick Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua as his running mate.
National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung'wah has claimed that Gachagua is among the people trying to spoil it for Ruto in Mt Kenya, and is secretly scheming against him.
He alleged that Gachagua has been telling residents to unite behind him so they can blackmail Ruto, something he declared unacceptable.
“In the two years we have not seen you launching even a single development project. But you are telling us to unite to intimidate the President. We have given you the permission to go and make friends and plan a government for another year,” he is quoted by The Standard on Tuesday.
The Kikuyu Member of Parliament made the remarks in Tigania West.
He poked holes into Gachagua’s call for unity of the region, saying his call is driven by his interests and not those of the people.
He also wondered why Gachagua is working with Ruto's opponents like Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, alleging that all he wants is to frustrate the President and his administration.
