A storm is brewing within Jubilee Party after Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni and former Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu were accused of misrepresenting a private meeting between former Mt Kenya MPs and ex-Interior CS Fred Matiang’i.
According to insiders, the meeting, which was purely consultative, was hijacked by political maneuvering.
The former MPs allege that Kioni and Wambugu attempted to twist the gathering into a narrative that Matiang’i had formally joined Jubilee Party.
The accusations gained weight after Wambugu arrived late for the session.
Sources reveal that he was not granted time to speak but still managed to pull Matiang’i aside, diverting attention from the meeting’s intended objectives.
Eyewitnesses claim Wambugu had brought along a photographer specifically for publicity.
Immediately after the meeting ended, he posed for a staged photo with Matiang’i, which he rushed to post on social media before Matiang’i had even left.
This move sparked fury among the former MPs, who felt the image was deliberately choreographed to send misleading signals about Matiang’i’s political intentions and possible alignment with Jubilee Party’s planned National Delegates Conference.
Adding to the tension, the leaders accuse Kioni of failing to clarify the purpose of the meeting.
They insist his silence has fueled speculation, leaving room for political manipulation at the expense of transparency.
Matiang’i, sources close to him say, was equally unsettled by how the encounter was exploited.
He reportedly expressed disappointment that what was meant as an informal engagement was quickly turned into a propaganda tool.
The former MPs have strongly distanced themselves from Jubilee’s internal wrangles.
They maintain the meeting had no relation to the upcoming Jubilee NDC or any agenda concerning the party’s organizational matters or realignments.
