'ODM to Control DP Seat?' Cherargei Alleges Secrets of UDA–ODM Power Deal

Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has ignited fresh debate after hinting that Raila Odinga’s ODM could clinch the coveted Deputy President position in 2027 if ongoing talks with President William Ruto’s UDA succeed.

Speaking during an interview with one of the local TV stations on Thursday, Cherargei revealed that discussions between the two rival giants are not just about forming an election pact but also about sharing powerful government positions once the deal is sealed.

“We are having the conversation on whether the deputy president is going to be from ODM. We are still cooking,” Cherargei declared, sending shockwaves across the political divide.

He insisted that if ODM and UDA join forces, the partnership would extend to top appointments, ensuring each side gets a fair share of influence within government.

“ODM and UDA working together means there are a lot of positions to be shared. The positions are going to be negotiated,” he added, suggesting that Raila’s party could walk away with one of the biggest slots at the table.

Cherargei’s explosive remarks now raise the possibility of a 2027 ticket where Ruto remains at the top, while ODM secures the Deputy President’s office, a scenario that would completely shake up Kenya’s political landscape.
