President William Ruto has stated that the decision on the term limits of elected leaders will be made by voters during the elections.
Speaking at State House during an economic empowerment event for Nairobi residents’ groups he urged the opposition leaders led by former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua to present their better agenda for Kenyans, instead of politicking on "one term" slogan.
The economic empowerment event was attended by Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, MPs, and MCAs from both the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) parties.
Leaders present included Makadara MP George Aladwa, Phelix Odiwuor of Lang’ata, John Kiarie of Dagoretti South, Ronald Karuri of Kasarani, Anthony Oluoch of Mathare, Peter Orero of Kibra, Mark Mwenje of Embakasi West, Senator Tabitha Mtinda, Beatrice Elachi of Dagoretti North, Senator Karen Nyamu, T.J Kajwang of Ruaraka, Tim Wanyonyi of Westlands, Esther Passaris, and several MCAs.
Nevertheless, Most ODM MCAs did not attend the event.
Makongeni Ward MCA and Leader of Majority in the Assembly, Peter Imwatok, did not attend the event, along with Deputy Majority Leader Moses Nyangaresi Ogeto, who represents Kilimani Ward.
According to information obtained by Taifa Leo, Imwatok said that all Azimio members were dissatisfied with the event’s preparations.
In addition, MP Aladwa said that those opposing an inclusive government would be voted out in 2027.
“I hear some leaders speaking against this inclusive government.
I want to assure you that the ODM party is part of this inclusive government and we support the President.
Those opposing this government are free to leave,” Aladwa said.
The MP also assured some ODM MCAs from the Nairobi County Assembly that they should not fear anyone.
