The story began when Geoffrey Mosiria, Nairobi County’s Chief Environment Officer, noticed the unusual structure built high on a tree. Out of curiosity, he approached the young man who was living inside what looked like a bird’s nest.
The “house” had been held together with recycled materials and old wood, drawing the attention of many passersby.
When Mosiria spoke to him, the young man shared that he was not a thief or criminal. He explained that life had simply pushed him into poverty and unemployment.
After struggling to keep his belongings safe on the streets, he resorted to building the tree shelter to survive. Touched by the story, Mosiria decided to take action.
He quickly mobilized well-wishers and within hours, the man’s life took a positive turn. By the end of that day, he had been moved into a rented house, given shopping, and had received KSh 37,000 in contributions from Kenyans who were moved by his situation.
“I have paid his rent for three months, bought him food supplies, and Kenyans of goodwill came together to contribute over thirty thousand shillings to support his transition,” Mosiria confirmed.
But that was not all. Before the encounter, Mosiria had also bought him a mkokoteni (handcart) for small business activities.
On top of that, two generous Kenyans stepped forward with job offers, giving the once-homeless man a chance to earn a stable income.
Grateful for the outpouring of help, the young man expressed his heartfelt appreciation and asked the government to support others who are struggling like him. He prayed for blessings upon Mosiria and all those who contributed to his new beginning.
Online, many Kenyans praised Mosiria’s efforts and encouraged more initiatives to uplift people in difficult situations.
Some said it was proof that when Kenyans come together, lives can truly be transformed.
Others, however, reminded that long-term support such as reintegration into family and steady employment would be key to ensuring the man never returns to the streets.
