A family in Vihiga County has been left heartbroken after their son, Emmanuel Mwingisi, passed away only three months after beginning his studies at Friends College Kaimosi.
The 19-year-old, who had just embarked on his journey to study medicine, developed a strange illness that puzzled both his family and doctors.
According to relatives, Emmanuel first complained of stomach pains and swelling, which worsened over time. Despite visiting several hospitals, his condition failed to improve.
His father, Francis Chweya, described him as a determined young man who dreamed of becoming a doctor and supporting his family.

“I have lost an incredible son with a very bright future. When I received the news, I was in Nairobi hustling. I was shattered beyond measure,” he said.
Chweya revealed that his son had travelled to Nairobi to seek further medical help but never made it.

“He could not walk, relieve himself, or stand for long. His stomach and legs were swollen. We had many questions about what could have caused this, but we never got answers,” he added.
The illness left the family drained both emotionally and financially. Chweya, who works in construction, said he was unable to raise funds for a postmortem to establish the exact cause of death.
