Edwin Sifuna Responds as Raila Odinga Hints at ODM’s 2027 Presidential Candidate Plans

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has responded to ODM leader Raila Odinga’s recent remarks about the party’s position on the 2027 general elections.

Raila had dismissed claims that ODM might not field a presidential candidate, insisting that no final decision has been made.

Sifuna, who was absent from the event where Raila spoke, took to his X page to emphasize the message, captioning his post:

“Loud. Clear.” His reaction shows alignment with Raila’s call for unity and caution among party members regarding public statements on ODM’s future plans.

In the past, Sifuna has been critical of President William Ruto’s government and even hinted that he could leave the party if ODM supported Ruto in 2027.

Many party members have voiced similar concerns, questioning ODM’s pact with Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) under the broad-based Kenya Kwanza arrangement.

During his speech, Raila warned party members not to commit ODM to decisions that have not been fully discussed. He stressed that the party has a clear roadmap for 2027, which will be followed when the time comes.

“So, wherever you are, don’t commit the party to some things which have not been discussed. Let those things be discussed first. We are ODM. Who’s told you that ODM will not have a candidate in 2027?” Raila asked.

Raila also clarified that ODM’s agreement with UDA was intended to create political stability and tackle national challenges, not to undermine the party’s independence or future role in the country’s politics.

Some party members, including Embakasi East MP Babu Owino and Saboti MP Caleb Amisi, have openly opposed ODM’s alliance with UDA.

They argue that ODM must maintain its identity and not be seen as a satellite of the ruling party.

The party’s message comes at a time when debates are intensifying over its 2027 strategy.

ODM supporters loyal to Raila have welcomed the clarification, saying it strengthens the party’s credibility and reassures members about its future direction.
