Denis Itumbi Opens Up on Ugly Confrontation With Gachagua Over Social Media Post

Head of Presidential Special Projects and Creative Economy Coordination, Dennis Itumbi, has disclosed details of a confrontation with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, accusing him of insecurity and obsession with public approval.

Speaking in an interview on Friday, Itumbi said Gachagua portrays strength in public but acts timid in private.

“He appears like a lion in public when holding a microphone, but he is a timid cat in private,” he remarked.

Itumbi claimed Gachagua once demanded he post on Facebook declaring him the Mt. Kenya kingpin. His refusal, he said, almost led to a physical fight.

“He told me to write that Rigathi Gachagua is the kingpin in Mt. Kenya. I refused. He grabbed my shirt, ready to hit me because I declined,” Itumbi recounted.

According to him, Gachagua’s frequent attacks against him and political allies such as Farouk Kibet stemmed from low self-esteem.

“Whenever he mentions me or Farouk, it shows he suffers from insecurity,” Itumbi said.

He added that Gachagua constantly monitored social media reactions, even during Cabinet meetings.

“During sessions, he would check newspapers and comments on Facebook and WhatsApp. That was not listening to the people; it was insecurity,” Itumbi explained.

Itumbi concluded that Gachagua’s reliance on validation weakened his leadership, reducing it to titles and public image. His remarks are likely to reignite debate in Mt. Kenya politics, where succession and leadership remain contested.Click here.
