Residents of Kitale, Trans Nzoia County, woke up in shock on Friday morning after a domestic disagreement turned into tragedy.
Police confirmed that 34-year-old Peter Wekesa killed his wife, Mary Naliaka, after she allegedly told his relatives that he was not good in bed.
According to neighbors in Matisi Estate, the couple had been living together for close to seven years and were blessed with two children.
People close to the family revealed that their marriage had faced several challenges, but no one expected it would end in such a brutal manner.
On Thursday night, Peter is said to have confronted Mary after hearing from his elder brother that she had openly told their in-laws about his weaknesses in their marital life.
The conversation, which started as a heated exchange, later turned violent.
Witnesses said loud screams were heard coming from their house before silence followed.
Police officers who arrived at the scene on Friday morning found Mary’s lifeless body in the bedroom with visible injuries.
Peter, who had fled after the incident, was later arrested at a hideout in Saboti.
Trans Nzoia County Police Commander, confirmed the arrest, saying the suspect would face murder charges.
“This is a very unfortunate case where a family dispute ended in death. We urge couples to seek counseling or involve elders instead of resorting to violence,” he said.
Neighbors described Mary as a calm and hardworking woman who operated a small grocery shop in Kitale town.
“She was friendly and loved by many. It is painful that her life has been cut short in such a manner,” said Jane Nekesa, a neighbor.
The couple’s children, aged 10 and 6, are now in the custody of relatives as investigations continue. Click here.
