On Tuesday, June 17, police officers told the Nakuru Law Courts that Wanjohi’s refusal to reveal where he lives was slowing down the process of gathering crucial evidence.
He is currently the main suspect in the brutal killing of his wife, who went missing on May 25, 2025, while reportedly on her way to deposit KSh 250,000 on behalf of her employer.
“We have tried to convince him to lead us to his home for a search, but he has completely refused,” said investigating officer Richard Kipsang while presenting his report before Senior Resident Magistrate Cynthia Muhoro.
Wanjohi was arrested earlier in the month after suspicions arose around his potential involvement in the disappearance and murder of Waithera.

Police say his behavior since arrest has raised further red flags, citing his uncooperative attitude and attempts to withhold basic information such as his residential address.
“He is a flight risk and has already shown signs of evading justice,” Kipsang told the court.

“We are requesting more time to complete investigations, including forensic analysis of his phone, DNA results, and potential links to other suspects.”
Although the prosecution sought to detain Wanjohi for an additional 14 days, the magistrate allowed only a 7-day extension.

She noted that the investigating team had made progress in the case but agreed more time was needed to tie up remaining loose ends.
In his defense, Wanjohi argued that he had already been detained beyond the initial 14-day period and claimed that police had completed most of the necessary procedures, including DNA sample collection.
But the court heard that several pieces of evidence were still pending. Forensic analysis of his mobile phone is ongoing at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), and samples taken from the deceased were sent to the government chemist for examination. A mental health assessment for Wanjohi is also yet to be conducted before possible murder charges are filed.
Another unnamed suspect has since been arrested in connection with Waithera’s killing, though police have not disclosed their specific role in the crime.
Waithera’s body was discovered at the Nakuru County mortuary days after she went missing. According to reports, she was found dead at Technology Farm near Rift Valley National Polytechnic under unclear circumstances.
The case has shocked many in Nakuru County, where residents are now calling for swift justice. The motive behind the killing remains unclear, though police say investigations are intensifying.
