MP Caroli Omondi Claims ODM-Linked CSs Are Secretly Planning to Quit Ruto Government Ahead of 2027

New claims by Suba South MP Caroli Omondi have intensified speculation over possible cracks within the broad-based government after he alleged that several Cabinet Secretaries associated with ODM are considering resignation ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Omondi, who currently serves as Secretary General of the Azimio coalition, suggested that a number of senior officials who previously belonged to the Orange Democratic Movement before joining President William Ruto’s administration may soon return to active opposition politics.

According to the legislator, the reported plans are being driven by shifting political calculations as leaders begin repositioning themselves for the next electoral contest.

The remarks come at a delicate moment for ODM and the wider Azimio coalition, both of which have experienced internal disagreements since some opposition figures accepted Cabinet appointments under the broad-based arrangement.

Political tensions escalated earlier this year when Azimio leaders accused members who joined government of abandoning coalition principles.

Some senior figures linked to the arrangement were subsequently pushed out of coalition leadership structures, deepening divisions within the opposition camp.

Omondi himself has not escaped the fallout. The outspoken MP has previously faced disciplinary and political pressure over his stance on cooperation between sections of ODM and the Kenya Kwanza administration.

His latest remarks have now revived debate over whether the broad-based government can maintain stability as the country edges closer to the next election cycle.

Observers say the possible departure of ODM-linked Cabinet Secretaries would carry significant political consequences, particularly because it could signal the collapse of fragile working relationships formed after the 2022 elections.

Analysts also believe the claims reflect growing uncertainty inside both government and opposition circles, where leaders are increasingly balancing public service roles against long-term political survival.

So far, there has been no official confirmation from State House or affected Cabinet Secretaries regarding any planned resignations. The Executive has also remained silent on Omondi’s allegations.

Still, the comments have added fuel to ongoing speculation about a broader political realignment that could reshape alliances ahead of 2027.

As political camps continue recalibrating their strategies, attention is now turning to whether the claims represent genuine behind-the-scenes planning or simply early political pressure designed to test loyalty within the broad-based administration.
