“I’m in UDA to Stay,” Mount Kenya MP Shuts Down Defection Talks Amid Murang’a Political Shake-up

Mathioya Member of Parliament Edwin Mugo Gichuki has declared loyalty to the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), dismissing speculation that he may follow leaders who have recently exited the party in Murang’a County.

Gichuki made it clear that he remains firmly committed to President William Ruto’s political camp, saying his focus is on strengthening the party rather than abandoning it amid shifting regional political dynamics.

His remarks come after Governor Irungu Kang’ata and Chege Njuguna signaled their departure from UDA, moves that have sparked debate about possible political realignments within Murang’a’s leadership.

The MP, however, downplayed the significance of those exits, insisting that individual decisions by leaders do not necessarily reflect the direction or strength of the ruling party in the region.

He emphasized that UDA remains his political home and that he has no intention of defecting or joining alternative political formations ahead of the 2027 general election.

Gichuki reaffirmed his support for President Ruto’s administration, stating that his priority is delivering development projects and representing the interests of Mathioya constituents effectively.

He noted that political stability within the party is crucial for development, adding that shifting allegiances only distract leaders from addressing the needs of wananchi on the ground.

According to him, the people of Mathioya elected him on a UDA ticket, and he intends to honor that mandate by staying within the party and supporting its agenda nationally and locally.
