Governor Chased Away Amid Deadly Chaos at Igembe South Burial as Mourners Reject Political Speeches

Tension briefly disrupted the burial ceremony of bodaboda operator Muthomi Kasmall in Igembe South after mourners confronted politicians who had attended the funeral, insisting that the event remain strictly focused on paying respect to the deceased.

The incident unfolded moments after the arrival of Meru County Governor Isaac Mutuma, who had joined other leaders and residents in mourning the late operator.

What began as a solemn gathering quickly turned chaotic when sections of the crowd voiced strong opposition to political addresses at the funeral.

Eyewitnesses reported that mourners and local residents demanded that all political leaders present refrain from delivering speeches they considered divisive or inappropriate for the occasion.

The group emphasized that the burial should be reserved for honoring the life and contributions of the deceased, rather than political messaging.

As emotions escalated, some attendees reportedly shouted down attempts by leaders to speak, forcing a temporary halt to proceedings.

Security personnel and community elders intervened to restore calm and allow the ceremony to continue.

Despite the disruption, the burial eventually proceeded, though under heightened tension and with reduced formal addresses from political figures.

The incident highlights growing public sensitivity in parts of the region over the politicization of funerals, with some communities increasingly pushing back against turning mourning events into political platforms.
