A viral moment in Nyaza has set social media alight after a Kenyan citizen was pictured kissing President William Ruto’s hand while he greeted political leaders in front of ODM MP Millie Odhiambo, sending tongues wagging ahead of the 2027 elections.
The unusual gesture immediately drew mixed reactions, with social media commentators offering everything from humor to sharp political critique.
Political analyst Joseph Kanyotu dismissed the display as absurd, tweeting, “Kwendeni uko hii ni unjinga,” labeling it a ridiculous spectacle.
Meanwhile, online influencer Mgazah interpreted the moment politically, stating, “Hii TUTAM (Ruto will serve for second term) itawauma sana… Ruto ni tutam, mkishidwa kura msingo’e reli,” suggesting the display reflects confidence in President Ruto’s reelection prospects.
Others saw drama and satire in the gesture. Dudolf Wagner described it as “Hio ni sumu already,” while Baridi weighed in, warning, “Alafu mtu aambie huyu mama aty Ruto ni one term, walai huyu atakuuma hukufe na ujue chama ni ODM,” emphasizing the tension between political loyalties.
Social media personality James Ekwenyi shrugged off the hype as content gold, saying, “Content creation tumewazoea,” while Evans Onyango expressed shock at the audacity of the citizen: “Uongoo! Huoni amejikiss mkono yake.”
Roba Maina called the spectacle outright nonsense, describing it bluntly as “upuzi.”
The incident has since dominated Twitter, Facebook, and TikTok, with memes, jokes, and heated debates flooding the internet.
Analysts note that while the hand-kissing may seem trivial, such viral moments can influence public perception, highlight political theatre, and fuel narratives as parties position themselves for the 2027 polls.
Whether interpreted as respect, opportunism, or sheer theatrics, the Nyaza hand-kissing moment has left Kenyans divided, entertained, and talking—making it one of the most viral political visuals of the year.
