Tension gripped Bungoma County after a group of suspected goons attacked the Enenga Command Centre linked to Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi leaving several people injured and property damaged in a chaotic incident that has raised concerns about growing political hostility in the region.
The attack occurred at the Enenga Command Centre a political coordination hub associated with Wanyonyi’s activities in Bungoma County.
According to reports a group of rowdy youths stormed the premises and began vandalizing property while clashing with individuals present at the facility.
The sudden violence caused panic among those at the centre forcing some to flee for safety as the situation escalated.
Eyewitnesses said the attackers armed with crude weapons descended on the location unexpectedly and began pelting stones and destroying property.
In the commotion several individuals sustained injuries although the exact number and severity of the injuries were not immediately confirmed.
Some victims were reportedly rushed to nearby health facilities for treatment.
The motive behind the attack remains unclear but the incident is believed to be linked to escalating political rivalries in the region as leaders position themselves ahead of future political contests.
Bungoma has recently experienced heightened political tension with rival factions accusing each other of sponsoring violence to intimidate opponents and influence local support bases.
Local leaders and residents have condemned the violence calling for calm and urging authorities to investigate the incident thoroughly.
Security agencies have been urged to identify and arrest those responsible to prevent further escalation of political clashes in the area.
The attack has once again highlighted concerns about the use of hired youths to disrupt political activities in Kenya especially as political competition intensifies across various counties.
Authorities are expected to launch investigations into the incident as calls grow for stronger security measures to safeguard political events and ensure peaceful engagement among rival camps in Bungoma and beyond.
