Speaking on February 2, 2026, President Ruto said that the government has hired more teachers to reduce the shortage of teachers.
"In 2022, capitation was low, we did not have enough teachers, the education programme was broken. We are fixing your mess; there was not enough money for universities. Twenty-one universities were facing closure. Spare us your lectures and whatnot. This month, money for capitation was in schools before students resumed schools."
The President also said that the government has hired over 100,000 teachers to address the teacher shortage in the country.
He slammed the leaders of the United Opposition for attacking the government instead of selling their agenda to Kenyans, stating that they don't have a plan.
Speaking about the upcoming general elections in Kenya, he affirmed that Kenyans will elect leaders based on their track record and not on how many times they criticized the government.
He made the statement days after Matiangi claimed that the current administration has ruined education.
The former Education Cabinet Secretary said the government has enough money to fund education, money which he said is being stolen
