United Opposition Left Speechless as Ruto Delivers Sharp Rebuke

President William Ruto delivered a sharp rebuke to his critics during an event in Kisumu, challenging the opposition's stance on his administration's flagship affordable housing program.

Speaking at the Nyota Capital Disbursement ceremony, where Ksh220 million was handed out to youth beneficiaries from Kisumu, Siaya, and Homa Bay counties, Ruto dismissed claims that housing is not a national priority.

He described his detractors as agenda-less and questioned their understanding of Kenya's realities.

The President highlighted that the housing initiative currently employs 500,000 Kenyans, primarily young people, and argued that halting it would leave these workers without livelihoods or places to stay.

He pointed out that every major political manifesto over the past 30 years has included housing as a key promise, underscoring its long-standing importance across party lines.

Ruto's remarks appeared aimed at opposition figures who have criticized the program as unaffordable or misprioritized amid economic pressures.

He emphasized the project's role in job creation, economic growth, and addressing the housing deficit, particularly in urban areas.

In Kisumu County specifically, the government has committed substantial funds to deliver thousands of affordable units, modern markets, and student hostels, creating additional employment opportunities.

The speech came as Ruto continues to defend his Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda against growing scrutiny.

By framing housing as essential for youth empowerment and national development, he sought to counter narratives portraying the program as detached from public needs.

Observers note the event's location in Kisumu—a region historically associated with opposition strongholds signals efforts to build broader support through visible development initiatives.

As political temperatures rise ahead of future elections, Ruto's direct challenge to critics reinforces his commitment to pushing forward transformative projects despite opposition noise.
