Murang’a Senator Joe Nyutu has sharply criticised President William Ruto over the political fallout following the removal of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, terming it the “greatest political mistake” of the Head of State’s career.
Speaking today while at TV47, Nyutu argued that the ouster of Rigathi Gachagua triggered the current succession debate surrounding the deputy presidency ahead of the 2027 General Election.
According to the senator, had Gachagua remained in office, there would be no speculation about who will deputise William Ruto in the next electoral cycle.
Images and videos obtained by Kenyans.co.ke from the scene depicted a police job card from one of the suspects with the rank of a police corporal. However, we could not immediately and independently verify whether it was genuine.
Additionally, another suspect also had the Auctioneers Licencing Board Licence and a matching national identity card, which was also at the scene of the lynching.
Some locals suggested that one of the suspects may have been a police officer attached to the Koru Police Station.
Speaking to the media following the incident, Soin Police Commander Lawrence Kisini said his officers acted promptly after receiving tips from the public.
In his report, he detailed that two suspects were cornered and killed in Kejiriet village, while three others were intercepted in Kibugat village in Kipsitet.
Further, several items were recovered from the suspects, including walkie-talkies, two vehicle number plates, and a toy revolver made of plastic.
Commander Kisini said the number plates suggested attempts to disguise the vehicle’s identity.
“There were two number plates, one on the vehicle and another hidden inside it. They also had a toy pistol resembling a revolver,” Kisini noted.
At the same time, local reports indicate gangs have been using Toyota Probox vehicles to target motorists along the Kipsitet Junction–Muhoroni stretch.
