Sifuna Reacted After Linda Mwananchi Faction Truck Was Stoned While En Route To Kakamega

A truck aligned with the Linda Mwananchi faction of the ODM came under attack on Friday morning while en route to Kakamega County for a rally scheduled for Saturday, February 21.

In videos circulated by Senator Edwin Sifuna, the incident took place at the Kona Mbaya trading center, where stones were thrown at the vehicle while it was part of a convoy.

The footage shows a tense moment when the turnboy, responsible for leading chants for the cause, ducked down in the truck to evade the flying rock.

Fear quickly spread among the passengers, with their frightened voices heard before the video abruptly cuts off. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported from the incident.

Senator Sifuna explained that prior notice of the rally had been communicated to Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen in advance, both via WhatsApp and within a Senate WhatsApp group where Murkomen remains active as a former senator.

This was done to ensure that authorities could not claim ignorance of the rally, especially given previous disruptions, such as the Kitengela rally which resulted in two fatalities and over fifty injuries.

CS Murkomen had previously remarked that the opposition was intentionally scheduling events on market days to draw larger crowds and accused the organizers of involving outsiders who were allegedly responsible for the disturbances.

The Kakamega incident highlights charged political atmosphere surrounding rallies, emphasizing the dangers faced by participants in convoys and the necessity for proper coordination with security agencies.

Authorities and party officials are expected to enhance their vigilance to prevent similar attacks and ensure that rallies can take place safely, while keeping order and reducing the likelihood of confrontations among political supporters.
