Regions Where President Ruto Might Beat His Opponents in 2027 General Election(Opinion)

The political temperature in the country is gaining momentum as we head to the next general election that will be held in 2027.

President William Ruto will be seeking for second term and he is expected to face a tight contest from the candidate that will be fronted by the United Opposition.

Both President Ruto and the United Opposition have started identifying the regions they consider their strongholds. I want to highlight some regions where President Ruto is likely to outsmart his rivals in the upcoming poll.

1. Rift Valley

This is the home turf of president Ruto and a good number of the electorates in this region are expected to vote for him. Majority of the people living in Rift Valley are Kalenjins who are Ruto's tribesmen. Because Kenyans often vote along the tribal lines, the Kalenjins will definitely stand with Ruto.

The pastoral communities like Maasai, Samburu and Turkana have also been in ODM and because the party is currently in the Broad-based government, they will likely support Ruto.

2. Nyanza

The three main communities living in Nyanza are Luo, Kisii and Kuria. The Luo who are the majority are in ODM and are apparently supporting Ruto because the party is in the government. Kuria are also in UDA with a few in ODM. The two parties are in Broad-based and will probably form a Coalition with President Ruto as their flag bearer. Luo and Kuria votes are enough to give Ruto majority of votes in Nyanza.

3. Western

The region is also dominated by ODM. Ruto also have influential allies like Musalia Mudavadi, Moses Wetangula and Didmus Barasa. ODM and these leaders are likely to deliver majority of votes from Western Kenya to Ruto's basket.

4. Coast

Majority of Coastal leaders including Hassan Joho, Amason Kingi, Hassan Omar and others are in the Broad-based government. The only popular coastal leader who is against the Broad-based government is Nyali MP Ali Mohamed(Jicho Pevu).

These Coast leaders are expected to convince majority of the electorates from the region to vote for Ruto in 2027.
