Residents of Githurai 45 in Kiambu County are in deep shock following the murder of Monicah Nyambura, a single woman whose body was found inside her bedroom days after she was last seen alive.
Neighbours said Monicah had hosted several men shortly before her death, raising fears that one of them may be linked to the crime.
One resident warned others to be cautious and said that Monicah did not have a husband and that they had seen several male visitors entering her house.
She advised people to be careful about who they allow into their homes, especially at a time when insecurity in the country is high.
The tragic discovery was made on Friday, February 20, after neighbours noticed a strong smell in the building that refused to go away despite repeated cleaning.
A neighbour identified as Wamaitha said they first suspected a dead rat and organised a cleanup, but nothing changed.
Speaking to Paxson TV, Wamaitha said that after cleaning and realising the smell did not go away, they called the landlord because the foul smell was coming from Monicah’s house.
She explained that the landlord came, the house was opened, and that was when they discovered Monicah was dead.
Wamaitha said Monicah had not been seen for two days, which was unusual.
She explained that Monicah was a nice person who used to leave and return home daily, but they started wondering where she was after not seeing her for two days.
She added that Monicah’s phone was also off, which was strange because she was usually very active online.
She further claimed the body had visible injuries on the face, suggesting an attack. Police have launched investigations as Kenyans online mourn Monicah and demand justice.
