Police Forced to Act Fast as Angry Protesters Block the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway Today

Traffic along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway was thrown into chaos on Wednesday morning, February 11, after angry residents staged demonstrations at the Soko Mjinga area in Magumu.

The protest saw the busy road completely blocked using stones and logs, bringing movement to a standstill for hours.

The residents said the action was meant to raise hospital funds for a 19-year-old boy who has serious leg problems.

In a dramatic scene, the young man was carried on his bed as the crowd marched along the highway.

Videos shared online showed residents standing across the road while others placed stones and pieces of wood to block vehicles.

Some motorists, especially public service vehicles, attempted to bypass the blockade by driving along the edges of the road, causing confusion and safety concerns.

By the time the incident was reported, police officers had not yet arrived at the scene to restore order.

It was also not clear why some protesters began confronting motorists, even though the demonstration appeared peaceful at the start.

The highway protest came barely a day after a similar incident in Nyeri County on Tuesday, February 10.

Residents blocked the Nairobi-Nanyuki road using stones and bonfires following the mysterious death of a young woman.

According to reports, protesters marched with the body of the woman, who was found dead in a pit latrine at her home in Giagatika.

Police were later deployed and used tear gas to disperse the crowd.

The demonstrators demanded justice and urged security agencies to act fast and uncover the truth behind the death.

The rising cases of road protests have raised concern over public safety and the need for faster response by authorities.
