"Once I Became President, I'll Bring Back Free Education & Linda Mama" Gachagua Tells Kenyans

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has promised to bring back free education and the Linda Mama programme if elected President in 2027.

Speaking on Saturday night while addressing residents in Narok town on his way back home from an event in Narok North, Gachagua said his administration would prioritise social protection programmes that ease the burden on ordinary Kenyans.

“If given the opportunity to serve as President in 2027, I will ensure free education for all Kenyan children is fully restored. No child should be sent home because of school fees,” he told the crowd.

“The greatest political mistake that President Ruto has ever made in his career is instigating the removal of former DP Rigathi Gachagua. If he hadn't ousted him, there would be no debate about DP in 2027,” Nyutu said.

The Murang’a lawmaker claimed that the decision alienated a significant section of voters in the Mt. Kenya region, traditionally considered a key political stronghold.

He argued that the ongoing discussions about a possible new running mate signal growing dissatisfaction within the region.

Nyutu further alleged that President Ruto is now seeking to rebuild political ground by reaching out to opposition strongholds, particularly through engagement with the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

He claimed the President’s overtures to leaders from Luo Nyanza are an attempt to compensate for the perceived loss of support in Mt. Kenya.

“The debate is on because Ruto has lost his support in Mt. Kenya and that is why he is now going to ODM, specifically Luo Nyanza, to try and compensate a fraction of what he has lost,” Nyutu stated.

His remarks add to the intensifying political realignments as leaders position themselves ahead of 2027, with alliances and regional support expected to play a decisive role in shaping the country’s next electoral contest.
