A Nairobi university student has shared a painful account after his Valentine’s Day ended in tragedy following an alleged attack by his girlfriend.
Godia Stephen, a 27-year-old fourth-year student at Multimedia University, said he suffered serious burns after his girlfriend poured hot water on him as he slept at her house in Nairobi.
According to Stephen, the couple had argued earlier in the day over his former relationship. He said the disagreement appeared to calm down later that night, and he went to sleep believing the issue was resolved.
He later woke up in severe pain after hot water was poured on him.
Medical reports indicate that Stephen suffered burns on about 21 per cent of his body, affecting his arms, back, and legs.
He was rushed to hospital, where he is receiving specialised treatment.
Friends and relatives described his injuries as serious and said recovery may take time.
Police in Nairobi confirmed that an assault case has been opened and investigations are ongoing.
Officers said statements are being recorded from those involved as they seek to establish what led to the incident.
No arrest had been confirmed by the time of reporting.
The case has sparked widespread discussion online, with many Kenyans raising concern about relationship violence.
Authorities have urged couples facing conflict to seek dialogue and professional help, warning that domestic disputes can quickly turn dangerous when emotions run high.
