Nairobi: Good News For Man Who Threatened to Kill Senator Hezena as Court Makes a Landmark Ruling

A Nairobi court has granted cash bail to a man accused of sending death threats to nominated Senator Hezena Lemaletian, offering him relief as investigations continue.

Alex Anyolo Kikuyu appeared before the Milimani Law Courts after being charged with allegedly sending threatening WhatsApp messages to the senator on January 27, 2026.

Prosecutors told the court that the messages were sent while the senator was at her office at Bunge Towers, prompting her to report the matter to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations at Muthaiga.

Anyolo denied the claims and distanced himself from Samburu County politics.

He told the court that he had not threatened to kill the nominated senator, added that he had no interest in Samburu County politics, and said his focus was on Kakamega County politics, where he comes from.

Police requested that the suspect be detained for five days to allow cybercrime experts to analyse mobile lines and electronic devices recovered during his arrest.

The request was opposed by Anyolo, who argued that he has a fixed residence and family ties in Nairobi.

He told the court that he does not live a nomadic life, saying he is married with two children and has a permanent home in Buruburu, Nairobi. He insisted that he is not a wanderer.

Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina ruled that continued detention was not necessary, noting that investigators could proceed with forensic work without holding the suspect.

The court released Anyolo on a cash bail of KSh 20,000.

The case will be mentioned again in two weeks as investigations
