“Mnataka Tutoe Ruto Sai ama 2027?” — Kitengela Crowd Cheers as Orengo Takes Swipe at Ruto

James Orengo ignited a charged political moment in Kitengela on Sunday, February 15, after publicly challenging President William Ruto during a rally that later descended into chaos.

Addressing residents in the fast-growing Kajiado County town, the Siaya Governor posed a provocative question to the crowd: “Mnataka tutoe Ruto sai ama 2027?” — loosely translated as, “Do you want us to remove Ruto now or in 2027?”

The question immediately drew loud reactions from the audience, with sections of the crowd responding in unison, chanting “Ndiyo, Ndiyo.” The response signaled strong support from attendees, many of whom appeared energized by the governor’s remarks.

Orengo went further, suggesting that Kenyans should not feel obligated to wait until the next General Election if they were dissatisfied with the current administration.

His comments were met with applause and chants, turning the rally into a highly animated political gathering.

The remarks come amid heightened political activity across the country as leaders position themselves and their parties ahead of the 2027 elections.

Orengo, a veteran opposition figure, has remained a vocal critic of President Ruto’s administration, often questioning its economic policies and governance approach.

However, events took a dramatic turn shortly after Edwin Sifuna began introducing other leaders present at the rally. Witnesses reported that police lobbed teargas canisters into the crowd, abruptly interrupting the event.

As the first canister went off, Sifuna was heard urging supporters to remain calm while questioning who had ordered the disruption.

Moments later, additional teargas was fired, sending residents, boda boda riders, and supporters scrambling in different directions to escape the choking fumes.

The once-energetic rally quickly turned chaotic. Leaders were forced to leave the venue as the gathering dispersed, with many attendees fleeing for safety.

No immediate reports of serious injuries were confirmed at the time, though the incident heightened tensions in the area.

The disruption has since sparked debate online, with supporters condemning the use of force while critics argue that political rallies must adhere to security regulations.
