National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah has struck back at former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua following a public attack during the burial of late Ol Kalou MP David Kiaraho in Nyandarua County.
Ichung’wah took to Facebook to respond after Gachagua labeled him and other Ruto allies as “traitors” in front of a tense gathering that included President William Ruto and Deputy President Kithure Kindiki.
The clash unfolded when Gachagua gave his remarks at the requiem mass. He framed local politics as a battle between defenders of the community and those who betray it.
In a pointed warning to the President, Gachagua singled out Ichung’wah, saying in Swahili, “Rais nilikuonya hao vijana unatembea nao akina Ichung’wa watakueka kwa shimo, ona sasa.”
This roughly translates to, “President, I warned you about those young men you walk with, like Ichung’wah; they will put you in a hole, and now you see.”
Ichung’wah reacted swiftly online. He revealed that he had been mentioned 21 times in Gachagua’s speech.
The burial service brought together top leaders creating a charged atmosphere of forced unity.
Despite the solemn occasion, the political rivalry took center stage. Observers noted that Gachagua’s words were aimed at rallying his supporters and questioning the loyalty of Ruto’s allies.
The confrontation highlighted the deepening political fault lines within the Mt Kenya region.Ichung’wah used his Facebook post to push back against the narrative.
The incident has since dominated social media discussions. Many residents of Nyandarua and the broader Mt Kenya region expressed concern over the public nature of the dispute.
Analysts say such confrontations are likely to shape local alliances and voter perceptions in the months ahead.
Ruto, who was present during the clash, did not comment directly on the spat. Meanwhile, Ichung’wah’s social media response has drawn attention for its clear tone and direct call for unity.
Political watchers believe this could be the start of a heated showdown between Gachagua and key Ruto loyalists in the region.
