Former Agriculture Cabinet Minister Kipruto Arap Kirwa has predicted a significant defeat for President William Ruto in next year's general election.
Kirwa, who once served as the Cherangany MP, says that Ruto has failed Kenyans, and should lose by at least 60 percent of the vote in the forthcoming polls.
He has called upon the United Opposition to mobilise and make this a reality, accusing Ruto of reneging on the promises he made before his 2022 election.
Kirwa has lamented among others, the government's failure to address the issue of killings, corruption and the ballooning cost of living.
“We cannot tell Kenyans that we have tackled insecurity when insecurity continues to claim lives," he said on Monday, as reported by the People Daily.
"We want to give this guy a devastating blow by making sure that 60 per cent of Kenyans are going to reject him, notwithstanding the killings of some of us."
He urged the opposition to be keen in it's push against Ruto, and learn from past mistakes that undermined efforts to unseat incumbents.
“We have certain experiences. We know how the opposition failed in the past."
This comes at a time when former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua seems to be putting together a strong team of opposition figures out to ensure Ruto is rejected by the electorate in 2027.
The team has figures like Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Eugene Wamalwa of the DAP-K party and Jubilee's Fred Matiang'i.
Kirwa was a close ally of Ruto before his 2022 win, only to resign as the UDA Vice Chair months to the election to join the rival Azimio la Umoja camp.
