"Alikuwa Amepangiwa" Savula Exposes Leaked Call With President Ruto On How Wetangula Was to Be Pushed Aside for 2.6M Votes

Kakamega deputy governor Ayub Savula has revealed details of a private phone conversation he held with President William Ruto concerning early strategies for the 2027 General Election.

Speaking during an interview on NTV on Tuesday, February 10, Savula said the discussion took place shortly after the Malava parliamentary by-election, which was won by a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate.

According to Savula, the call focused on how President Ruto could significantly improve his performance in Western Kenya, a region that has traditionally leaned toward opposition politics.

Savula disclosed that he personally reached out to the president following the by-election to formally express his intention to work with the Kenya Kwanza administration ahead of 2027.

He told Ruto that his goal was to build a strong grassroots political structure capable of delivering votes for the president across the Western region.

During the conversation, Savula advised Ruto to keep Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula out of active campaigns in Western Kenya.

He argued that both leaders should instead focus on national-level engagements, allowing a separate regional team to concentrate solely on mobilising voters in Western Kenya.

Savula said Ruto agreed with the proposal and suggested that Bungoma governor Kenneth Lusaka take charge of coordinating the Western Kenya campaign efforts.

Because of political protocol, Savula insisted that the president personally contact Lusaka to formalise the arrangement, a move that was quickly completed.

Following the agreement, Savula and Lusaka began organising a political caucus aimed at delivering 2.6 million votes to Ruto from the region.

The caucus was officially launched during a meeting at a hotel in Kakamega, where members of parliament allied to the initiative were mobilised.

Savula noted that the next phase involved identifying and supporting aspirants for various elective positions, including MPs, senators, governors and women representatives.

He said the broader plan is to align regional leadership with President Ruto’s re-election strategy while consolidating Kenya Kwanza’s influence in Western Kenya ahead of 2027.
