NEWS JUST IN: Kenya Kwanza Politician Dies

Porro Ward Member of the County Assembly (MCA) Patrick Lerte has passed away after a short illness.

The death of the Samburu County legislator was confirmed on Sunday morning, December 28, through an internal communication issued by the Samburu County Assembly.

According to the memo, Lerte died while undergoing treatment at Maralal Referral Hospital.

Details surrounding the illness that led to his death have not yet been made public.

However, preliminary information indicates that the MCA had been unwell for several days before he was admitted to hospital, where doctors continued to monitor his condition until his death.

Patrick Lerte was first elected as the MCA for Porro Ward in the 2022 General Election. He won the seat on an Amani National Congress (ANC) ticket.

Earlier this year, ANC officially merged with President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA), making Lerte part of the Kenya Kwanza political coalition.

Until his death, Lerte served as the Chairperson of the County Assembly Committee on Lands and Physical Planning.

Colleagues and county officials often described him as a hardworking and committed leader who was passionate about land matters and local development in Samburu County.

News of his passing has been met with shock and sadness among residents of Porro Ward and fellow leaders across the county.

Several leaders have begun sending condolence messages to the family, friends, and constituents of the late MCA, praising his dedication to public service.

The Samburu County Assembly is expected to release more information regarding burial arrangements and official proceedings in the coming days.

His death creates a vacancy in Porro Ward, which will later be filled in accordance with electoral laws.
