Natembeya Alleges Money Gov't is Seeking to Pay as Compensation to Seize 337Acre Shanta Gold Land

Trans Nzoia county boss His Excellency Governor George Natembeya has attracted huge public attention, after disclosing to the public the amount of money the Kenya Kwanza administration government being spearheaded by the Head of State His Excellency President William Ruto is seeking to pay as compensation, to displace Luhyas from their ancestral wealth.

As per his pronouncement on the X platform, Natembeya alleged that after the discovery of the wealthy Gold mine land at Ikolomani, battle over mining sites escalated after the government allegedly started to purse the wealthy land with plans to evict the initial owners.

As a result, Natembeya indicated that after National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) convened a special forum in Ikolomani to collect views on the company’s Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), plans to offer Ksh 3 billion to the residents as compensation started to be orchestrated silently, for the government to extract gold worth KSh 683 billion.

Additionally, Natembeya indicated that the Sh 3 billion that the government is seeking to offer as compensation will be shared among over 800 households currently owning the joint 337 acre land, that the State is planning to seize.

Terming the compensation as inadequate, Natembeya urged the residents of Ikolomani to strongly reject the alleged Shanta Gold's plan to seize land and displace households off their ancestral wealth.

Aside from that Natembeya urged the Abaluhyia community members, to demand local ownership and control over their resources affirming that it is the only way that would ensure prosperity in the region.

"We reject Shanta Gold’s Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), reject evictions, and insist that Ikolomani’s gold belongs to Ikolomani’s people" Gorge Natembeya affirmed on his X.
