Karua Breaks Silence, Finally Reveals What Raila Told Her About Ruto, Igniting Political Debate

Martha Karua has revealed details of what she describes as her final conversation with the late opposition leader Raila Odinga, shedding light on his private discomfort with the government of President William Ruto.

Speaking during the #Events2025 forum, the People’s Liberation Party (PLP) leader said the discussion took place at a time when Raila was still publicly cooperating with the Kenya Kwanza administration under the so-called broad-based arrangement.

Karua said she directly challenged Raila on his continued support for a government she accused of using violence against its own citizens.

According to her, she asked him whether it did not trouble his conscience to stand with an administration linked to the killing of protesters and suppression of dissent.

Karua noted that her appeal was not political theatrics but a heartfelt plea, insisting that Raila’s withdrawal would have significantly weakened President Ruto’s grip on power, especially in Parliament.

“I urged him to leave the government because I was convinced that without his support, it would collapse, even legislatively,” she stated.

The veteran politician disclosed that Raila did not dismiss her concerns. Instead, he admitted that he was deeply uneasy with the direction the government had taken.

Karua said Raila acknowledged the moral dilemma he faced and confessed that the situation weighed heavily on him.

However, the two agreed to revisit the matter in detail once Karua returned to the country, a conversation that never happened following Raila Odinga’s death.

The revelation has reignited debate over Raila’s final political choices and whether he was internally conflicted during his last days in active politics.

Supporters of Karua argue her account confirms long-held suspicions that Raila was uncomfortable with the alliance but felt constrained by political realities.

Others say the disclosure humanizes the late leader, portraying him as a man torn between stability and principle.
