Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has sent a direct message to Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua, assuring him of a political home should his relationship with President William Ruto’s administration deteriorate.
Speaking during a public engagement on Thursday, Kalonzo stated that Mutua should not worry if he finds himself edged out of the Kenya Kwanza government, saying the opposition is ready to receive him.
Kalonzo said Mutua only needs to make a single phone call for him to be officially welcomed into the opposition fold.
He noted that political shifts are common, adding that the former Machakos governor has previously demonstrated the ability to reposition himself when necessary.
According to Kalonzo, the opposition is open to any leader who feels sidelined or frustrated within the current administration.
His remarks come amid growing speculation about internal tensions within President Ruto’s Cabinet, with Mutua being among the CSs perceived to be politically vulnerable.
Kalonzo took the opportunity to remind Mutua that political survival requires decisiveness, especially at a time when the country is grappling with economic challenges and rising public dissatisfaction.
Kalonzo also used the moment to criticise the government for what he termed as failed promises and disconnection from the realities facing ordinary Kenyans.
He insisted that leaders in the Cabinet should be ready to take responsibility if the administration continues to fall short on its commitments.
Mutua is yet to respond to the remarks, but the comments have sparked discussions on the political future of several Kenya Kwanza figures, especially as the country moves closer to the 2027 general elections.
Kalonzo’s statement is being viewed as both an open invitation and a strategic political signal as the opposition continues to reorganise itself.
